Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) Veterans’ Program - Involves the provision of priority workforce services to veteran customer which include: job referrals, job development, referrals to training and supportive services, case management, labor market information, résumé assistance, employability workshops, etc.

The Career and Service Center in Port Charlotte is staffed with two Veterans’ representatives to help you on your job search. They team with you and provide coaching, mentoring, and practical guidance to assist you in your job search process. In addition, the center offers:

  • Resumé preparation and critique assistance
  • Career and skill assessment
  • Workshops on resumé creation, the job search process, applications and interview skills
  • Refresher computer workshops
  • Referral to individualized training opportunities
  • Employment counseling
  • Access to our jobs web site
  • Fax machines, copy machines, and computers for your use

Assists veterans and their families in the presentation, processing, proof, and establishment of claims, privileges, rights, and benefits that have been determined to be programs to which they are entitled to under Federal, State, or local laws and policies. The Division also cooperates with the various governmental units and veterans organizations in seeking services to serve veterans.

As a Division of Charlotte County Human Services, offers information and referrals, claims assistance, and client advocacy to veterans, the surviving spouses of veterans, children of deceased or disabled veterans, or parents who have lost a child in military services.

Example of basic benefit programs are: Disability Compensation, Survivor Allowances for Dependents, Prisoners of War specific benefits, Pension Payments, Education and Training benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation, Home Loan Guaranties, Life Insurance, Benefits for Survivors, Burial in National Cemeteries, Headstones and Markers, Presidential Memorial Certificates, Burial Flags, Health-Care Benefits, as well as Hospital and Nursing-Home care. Because of the breadth of benefits with which our office deals, we find the demand for our services is ever-increasing.
